The Bilya Classroom Project (CSGS23013)

In November 2023, NSPNR learnt that we were successful in obtaining a grant from the WA State Government's Natural Resource Management program. The Bilya Classroom project will provide students from three local schools, Borden PS, Ongerup PS & Gnowangerup DHS, with an immersive learning experience and a responsibility to look after their schools’ adopted river site. "Bilya" means river in Noongar. Students will be exposed to hands-on learning, active monitoring, and restoration, and with a strong collaboration with Gnowangerup Aboriginal Corporation, students will understand and respect the local cultural connections. The Bilya Classroom Project will inspire and empower students to take ownership of their local rivers now and into the future. This project will continue to build on the incredible connections we've made with our local schools through our Curriculum Project & further the students’ understanding of our incredible natural surroundings. Both of these projects are supported by funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program.
